Saab is officially Dead!

A sad update to the Automotive Family Tree. GM as failed to find a buyer or partner to keep Saab afloat. As a result Saab will start a three month wind-down of operations. The Saab brand is officially dead!

BAIC buy into Saab 9-3 and 9-5

Looks like another connection change to the Automotive Family Tree. Beijing Automotive Industry Holdings Co. Ltd (BAIC) will buy Saab 9-3 and current 9-5, along with powertrain technology and tooling from GM. BAIC paid a reported $197 million to the intellectual property rights and equipments to make the 9-3 and 9-5 sedans.

VW buys 19.9% of Suzuki

Time to update the Automotive Family Tree. Volkswagen AG is going to buy 19.9% or 1/5 of Suzuki Motor Corp. for $2.5 billion. Why the merger? Looks like VW really wants that top global sales title that Toyota has recently enjoyed.
