Over the weekend I got a chance once again to participate in the BMW Ultimate Drive (r) for the cure of breast cancer. This is a great partnership between BMW and the Susan G. Komen for the Cure. For those that don’t know, BMW has a specially decorated fleet of about 25 vehicles in which every mile you dive, BMW donates a $1 to Susan G. Komen for the Cure, with a goal to raising $1 million. The program has donated more than $11 million to Komen and may more people happy driving around in a new beautiful BMW. The traveling caravan of cars makes about 230 stops across the U.S., so ask about it at your local BMW dealership. You can also sign-up online. Now you just need a valid driver’s license to take a test drive of the vehicles. You do need to be 18+ for most cars, 21 or 25 to drive the more expensive cars (like the 650) and over 30 to drive the real fast cars. There is a set route you drive, so don’t go crazy and think you have this for a day (it’s happen in the past).
I had the opportunity to drive five different cars. BMW brings most of their car and SUV lineup, with the expectations of “M” serious of cars. There were plenty of different vehicles to choose from, the X3, X5, Z4, 3, 5, 6 and 7, there were coupes and convertibles. Even though there wasn’t an X6 to test drive, it was the “signature” car. And new this year was the 1 serious, coupe and convertible. Plus, this year was an exception in that there was a M3 scheduled this year, but it didn’t make the trip. It got a ruined wheel in the previous town, but there was an Alpina B7! Which is the BMW 750, but with more HP(like over 500 HP!), special trip pieces and 20-inch rims, etc. I got to drive the 135 Coupe, Z4 Coupe, 650 convertible, 530 Wagon (or also called Estate across the pond) and the Alpina B7.
I want to thank Kim, Kristi and Molly for a great time at the BMW Ultimate Drive (r). I also want to thank Tammy for letting me transport one of these BMW to the next town. All the transports are also included in helping reach the goal to raise a $1 million.
