Still thinking diesels are slow and will never go fast? Well, you might want to talk to Gale Banks of Gale Banks Engineering whose Chevy S10 Duramax diesel-powered pickup did 180 MPH @ 7.7708 seconds in the quarter-mile about that.
Driver Wes Anderson was at the wheel during the NHRDA Desert Diesel Nationals at the Speedworld Dragstrip in Wittman, AZ. The Sidewinder, the truck’s namesake, has a GM 6.6-liter Duramax V8 diesel using Nitrous Oxide in place of the inter-cooling set up on turbo’s, saving weight and frontal area.
The big question is, if you can do 180 MPH in 1,320 ft, what can a diesel do at the 3 mile long Bonneville Flats?
