I have a long list of cars that lust after that I know I’ll never have. Ferrari’s, Lambo’s, Alfa’s, heck even a C6 Vette is out of my price range. But every-once-in-a-while a cute little car will come along that I could afford, just living in the wrong country.
Today it’s the Fiat 500 Abarth. The 500 is small, like MINI size, and to me is just as cute. But what’s really cool about the 500 is the interior. Like the MINI, there are hundred of options to choose from. The gauges are all in one pod fitted behind the steering wheel (which I like better then the center dash mounted gauges in the MINI), so the speed is the top number and RPMs are just below in one gauge. So it’s really cool watching someone go through the gears as the speed needle chases the RPMs needle around the gauge. Currently the 500 Abarth will debut at this year’s Geneva motor show with only 135hp four-cylinder. However, rumor has it that a 180hp engine is coming in the future. Plus, according to Automotive News, Fiat 500 might be sold in Alfa Romeo dealers sometime after 2010. So, who knows, maybe I will get one after all!!!
