The UK paper Telegraph is reporting today that Ben Collins is “The Stig”! For those wondering what I’m talking about, I’m talking about the most popular TV show around the world from the UK call Top Gear. On Top Gear there is a character that is a closely guarded secret called “The Stig”. He dresses up in all white driving suit, including a white helmet with dark or tinted visor always down so you can’t see who it is.
So who is Ben Collins? He’s competed in Formula 3, Le Mans, GT and NASCAR. His current job even includes being called driving stunt double for 007 in the movie The Quantum of Solace.
How who let the cat out of the bag? Well, Mr. Collins did himself. He asked Gallery owner Simon Whitehead to help him produce a limited-edition print of “The Stig” in action. The last guy (Perry McCarthy), also known as the “Black Stig”, was fired from the job because he told people in a book he was “The Stig”. (oops?)
A Top Gear spokesman said: “We never comment on speculation as to who or what “The Stig” is.”
