I guess this is the sign of the times, BMW M5 is trading in its big V10 for a turbocharged V8. The next generation M5, due out in 2011, will now feature a twin-turbo 4.8-liter V8 with 600 hp and a new eight-speed dual-clutch transmission. It’s reported that the 2012 M5 will have the Formula 1 KERS (Kinetic Energy Recovery System) with boost button and cylinder cutoff technologies.
The KERS sounds interesting, just can’t figure out where or when to use it in every day driving. If I wanted extra boost, don’t I just down-shift a few gears and floor it?
