Nissan will be bringing over its new clean-diesel Nissan Maxima for 2010. However, the only transmission option is a manual. Why does it only come with a “man-pedal”? With the extra power of a turbocharger, Nissan feels that the lag between stepping on the accelerator and feeling the turbo kick-in on a diesel may turn away buyers (like the $5/gallon wouldn’t). However, putting the turbodiesel with a manual transmission will offer more fluid accelerations than automatics.
According to Nissan, the 2.0-Liter, turbodiesel (Code Name M9R) is expected to offer 20 percent better gas milage than the 2.0-Liter gas engine.
