Land Rover’s go-anywhere SUV, the Defender, will FINALLY be replaced in 2013. The nearly indestructible Defender first went into production in 1948. But the current model hasn’t received a major change to its bodywork since 1983! Why the change? Why now? The Defender is facing tougher global emissions standard and pedestrian-friendly front ends. Land Rover managing director Phil Popham said, “The new Defender will be even more capable than the outgoing vehicle”. So don’t expect another cute-ute with SUV looks and little true off-road attitude.
No word was giving if the Defender would come back to the U.S.A.
