We hardly knew you Isuzu and we wish you the best of luck! If you missed the news in the past, Isuzu is pulling out of the U.S. market and on January 31, 2009, it will be the last day of Isuzu. Isuzu is currently selling rebadged vehicles from GM, the Ascender (TrailBlazer) and i-Series truck (Colorado). Which I’m sure isn’t going to help GM get back into the automotive global dominance game.
Isuzu started selling cars in the U.S. in 1981 with the Impulse (“handling by Lotus”) and the SUV Trooper. Most will remember the famous commercials my actor David Leisure as Joe Isuzu (offering you 3.9 percent financing or 500 pounds of bananas). Later Isuzu came out with the smaller SUV called the Rodeo. This was good enough that Honda licensed it and called it the Passport.
My favorite Isuzu had to be the VehiCross. Something about a two-door SUV with what looks like fangs in the grill was just my kind of “Mad Max” type of vehicle I like.
