A sad update to the Automotive Family Tree. GM as failed to find a buyer or partner to keep Saab afloat. As a result Saab will start a three month wind-down of operations. The Saab brand is officially dead!
GM first tried selling the Swedish car brand to Koenigsegg Group AB, then Dutch niche car maker Spyker Cars NV wanted a good deal. But neither supercar makers could come up with a deal that GM could agree to. GM said in a statement that its talks to Spyker that “certain issues arose that both parties believe could not be resolved”.
However, last week Saab Automobile AB announced that it had closed a deal of certain Saab 9-3, current 9-5 and powertrain technology and tooling to Beijing Automotive Industry Holdings Co. Ltd. (BAIC), has no impact on the earlier sale.
