According to Autonews.com, Th!nk Global will bring its electric cars back to the U.S. The company was here for a short time under the Ford umbrella in larger markets. But the brand disappeared in 2003. Most likely because of the fear of what to do with a used battery and gas prices started to come back down. However this time around, Think Global says not to worry about the batteries; why not lease the batteries? That might work this time around…
The City cars will sell for less than $20,000 and is good for about 110 miles on a full battery with the top speed of about 65mph. The car is longer than the Smart ForTwo, but shorter than the small Toyota Yaris hatchback. The batteries are sodium nickel chloride, which take two to three hours to charge or up to eight hours to charge if fully depleted. The company is in talks with U.S. battery makers A123 Systems Inc. to develop lithium ion batteries.
While I know the Th!nk Global City car has the only crash-test and highway-certified electric vehicle, I just don’t see it working in my town. I’ve too many streets that are 45 to 50 mph, plus 65+ just to get to the other end of town.
