Toyota is having a bad day. First they are going to recall 110,000, 2000-2003 Tundra pickups for rusting frames. The corrosion is at the rear cross-member, which supports the spare tire and could affect the rear brakes. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration urges owners of the recalled Tundras to remove the spare tire before bringing to the dealer for repair. No word on how they are going to fix the problem.
Now it seems that Toyota will replace 3.8 million gas pedals on:
2007-2010 Camry
2005-2010 Avalon
2004-2009 Prius
2005-2010 Tacoma
2007-2010 Tundra
2007-2010 Lexus ES350
2006-2010 Lexus IS250
2006-2010 Lexus IS350
Toyota has reconfigured the shape of the accelerator pedals so it will stop from jamming into the floor mat. They will also replace the original equipment floor mats with redesigned mats to match up with the new accelerator pedals. Plus, Toyota will install a brake override system that will shut off engine power if drivers press the accelerator and brake pedal simultaneously on the Camry, Avalon, Lexus ES and IS.
