VW is going to make a return of the turbo diesel power to the U.S.A. The Volkswagen Jetta BlueTDI will be one of the cleanest and most economic cars in its class, acclaims VW. Power comes from a 2.0-liter engine that has 140-hp, 230 ft-lbs of torque and gets 60 mpg! The Jetta BlueTDI should make its way to the showroom sometime this summer and hopefully when diesel prices will start to level off or more importantly, go down.
For those keeping score at home, the current most fuel efficient Jetta has the 2.5-liter 5-cylider that has 170 hp and 177 torque. It also gets 29 mpg. So the new BlueTDI might be 30 hp short, but makes up with over 50 more ft-lbs of grunt and gets twice the gas mileage. I know diesel is about .70 cents more a gallon compared to regular gas. However, diesel would need to be close to $7 a gallon compared to regular gas at $3.5 a gallon before it wouldn’t benefit owning the Jetta BlueTDI. Think about that for a moment…
